'The Pacific Northwest, at one time, was a fast temperate rain forest in which a single tree held more timber than it took build our whole house. Then, a little over a century ago, in the late 1800's, a chorus of axes echoed through ancient forests of Puget Sound. Engines of urbanization roared to life, carting off most fertile topsoil nature had so painstakingly made, stripping soil down to glacial till again' - The Hidden Half of Nature

The Basics
What is global warming?
let's start with the basics
Global warming is the term used to describe the rising of the average temperature on Earth. It has to do with overall climate of Earth rather than weather on any given day
Why is global warming important?
Even small variations of the planet's average temperature can have a large impact on the environment. For example, ice ages that occurred generally involved a reduction in global temperature of around 5°C
Greenhouse Gases
The reason Earth isn't a ball of frozen ice is because of greenhouse gases. Greenhouse gases act like insulation to keep Earth warm. However, as more and more greenhouse gases get into the atmosphere, Earth will start to grow warmer. Main greenhouse gases that keep Earth warm are water vapor, carbon dioxide, and methane
